Turning Your Logo Into Professional Embroidery

Before a logo or design can be embroidered onto clothing, it must first be converted into a specialist embroidery file. This process is called embroidery digitising.

Digitising is much more than simply uploading an image into an embroidery machine. Every part of the design must be carefully programmed so the machine knows exactly where, how and in what order to place each stitch.

At Scottish Goose, we professionally prepare your artwork so it can be embroidered cleanly, accurately and consistently across your garments.

What Does Embroidery Digitising Mean?

Embroidery digitising is the process of converting your logo, image or artwork into a stitch file that can be read by our professional embroidery machines.

During this process, we determine:

  • The type of stitches required
  • The direction of the stitches
  • The correct stitch density
  • The order in which each section is embroidered
  • The underlay required to support the design
  • Pull compensation to help maintain the correct shape
  • Colour changes
  • Start and finishing points
  • Trim points between sections

These decisions are important because different fabrics, logos and garment types all behave differently during embroidery.

A well-digitised design should look smooth, balanced and professional without causing unnecessary puckering, gaps or distortion.

Why Is Digitising Required?

Standard image files such as PNG, JPG, PDF or SVG files do not contain the stitch information required by an embroidery machine.

Your artwork may show us what the finished design should look like, but the machine still needs to be told:

  • Where to begin
  • Which direction to stitch
  • How closely the stitches should sit
  • Which areas should be filled
  • Which areas require satin stitching
  • When to change thread colours
  • When to trim and move to another section

The digitised embroidery file acts as a set of detailed instructions for the machine.

Our Embroidery Digitising Fee

Our standard embroidery digitising fee is:

£15.00 per design

This is usually a one-off setup charge.

Once your design has been digitised and approved, we keep the embroidery file securely on record for future orders.

This means you will not normally need to pay another digitising fee when using the same design again at the same size and layout.

A new digitising fee may apply if:

  • The design is changed
  • The lettering is altered
  • A different version of the logo is required
  • The design needs to be resized significantly
  • A completely different embroidery layout is requested

What Files Can You Send Us?

You can send your artwork in a range of formats, including:

  • PNG
  • JPG
  • JPEG
  • PDF
  • SVG
  • EPS
  • AI

Clear, high-resolution artwork will normally produce the best results.

Vector files such as AI, SVG, EPS or editable PDF files are particularly useful, but they are not always essential.

If you only have a photograph, screenshot or low-resolution logo, please send it to us and we will assess whether it can be used.

In some cases, the artwork may need to be redrawn or vectorised before it can be digitised. We will always discuss this with you before carrying out any additional work.

Can Every Logo Be Embroidered?

Most logos can be adapted for embroidery, but some very small details may need to be simplified.

Embroidery uses thread rather than ink, which means extremely fine lines, tiny lettering, gradients and photographic details may not reproduce in exactly the same way as they would in print.

We may recommend adjustments such as:

  • Making small lettering larger
  • Thickening fine lines
  • Simplifying tiny details
  • Removing gradients
  • Reducing the number of colours
  • Creating a cleaner embroidered version of the logo

Any recommended changes will be made to help your finished embroidery look clear, professional and suitable for the garment.

Different Fabrics Need Different Settings

The same logo may require different embroidery settings depending on the garment or fabric.

For example, a logo embroidered onto a polo shirt may require different underlay and stitch settings from the same design embroidered onto:

  • A fleece
  • A softshell jacket
  • A hoodie
  • A cap
  • A beanie
  • A workwear jacket
  • A waterproof garment

Fabric thickness, stretch and texture can all affect how the embroidery sits.

We take the intended garment into consideration when preparing and testing your design.

What Happens After Your Logo Is Digitised?

Once your artwork has been prepared, we will:

  1. Convert the design into a professional embroidery file.
  2. Review the stitch direction, density and layout.
  3. Load the file into our embroidery system.
  4. Test the design where required.
  5. Make any necessary adjustments.
  6. Embroider the approved design onto your garments.
  7. Keep the file on record for future orders.

For larger or more detailed orders, we may provide a digital preview or stitched sample before full production.

Left Chest Logo Embroidery

Left chest embroidery is one of the most popular options for:

  • Polo shirts
  • Hoodies
  • Sweatshirts
  • Fleeces
  • Softshell jackets
  • Workwear
  • Uniforms
  • Club clothing
  • Teamwear
  • Hospitality clothing

A left chest design is usually kept compact so it remains clear, balanced and professional.

For designs containing small lettering or detailed elements, we may recommend increasing the size slightly to improve the embroidered finish.

Larger Embroidered Designs

We can also prepare larger embroidery designs for areas such as:

  • The back of jackets
  • The back of hoodies
  • Sleeves
  • Workwear panels
  • Bags
  • Aprons
  • Towels
  • Promotional textiles

Larger designs may contain a higher stitch count and require more machine time.

The final cost will depend on the design size, stitch count, garment type and quantity ordered.

Your Digitised File

The embroidery file we create is specifically prepared for use with our machinery, thread settings, garments and production process.

We keep the file on record to make repeat ordering easier.

Should you require the embroidery file to be supplied for use elsewhere, this must be discussed separately, as embroidery files may need adjustment for different machines, garment types or production settings.

Artwork Support

Do not worry if you are unsure whether your logo is suitable for embroidery.

Simply send us your artwork and let us know:
